How Much it Costs to Order 806 Books
including shipping
Here is a quick, inside-baseball kinda post I thought some of you might find interesting.
We needed to restock our inventory for both our webstore and also the upcoming Ghoulish Book Festival we are throwing at the end of the month. After going through our current catalog, adding up what we already have in stock, and calculating what was currently in most demand, we ended up ordering a total of 806 books.
You might say, “Why, Max, that’s an awfully odd amount of books.” But you would be wrong. It’s an even amount of books. Go back to school.
Here is how much it costs to order 806 books from a POD service like Lightning Source.
Good to know! I'm planning a run of 300 luxe sewn-bound hardcovers for an anthology to be published in 2023 and will have to get quotes for that in the next few months... I'm expecting at least twice the cost of your 806 (presumably) perfect-bound copies.
I'm actually curious if that number's higher than you'd expected - I have to assume POD relies on "just in time" materials sourcing to keep costs low and that whole system on a global scale has more or less been fucked since 2020. With that and inflation (in the US at least) I'm sweating how much my lil project is actually going to cost me.
